Billy Beard

Billy Beard

Billy is a very busy Boston based drummer with a successful career spanning four decades. He is best known for his work with singer-songwriters such as Patty Griffin, Lori McKenna and Kim Richey. Following a college degree in oil painting, his first band, the pop group Face To Face yielded not only a top 40 hit, but two current musical luminaries and former band mates: producer and songwriter (Kings of Leon) Angelo Petraglia, and current Bob Dylan guitarist Stuart Kimball. Since then Beard has recorded and/or toured extensively with Patty Griffin, Melissa Ferrick, Lori McKenna, Kris Delmhorst, Catie Curtis, Bill Janovitz (Buffalo Tom) Jimmy Ryan, Dennis Brennan, the late Mark Sandman of Morphine, Rose Polenzani and Juno Award winning Canadian songwriter Rose Cousins.

In 2008 Beard won a Boston Music Award for Unsung Hero - an award honoring his hard work and commitment to the Boston music scene.

Rose Cousins' CD, We Have Made A Spark, featuring Beard on drums, won the 2013 Juno Award for Best Roots and Traditional Album of the Year.

Patty Griffin's heralded "lost album" Silver Bell, featuring Beard on drums, was released on October 8, 2013 by Universal Music. It currently holds the #22 position on The Americana Chart (11/20/2013) and has been listed as one of the years best albums by a number of publications.

Billy's current band, Session Americana, has toured extensively in the United States and Europe, has won multiple awards, and remains a sought after and highly popular band.
